(Haifa, Israel – August 28, 2012)

My name is Cindy Corrie. My family has asked me to make a few comments to you before we open it up to questions and at that time you will be able to hear from all of us.

First of all, we all want to thank our friends and supporters, who are here in Israel, in the West Bank, in Gaza, at home in Olympia, Washington, across the United States, and across the world. You all know who you are. You have held us in your hearts for all these years and have helped us in so many different ways. And, we would not be here without that support.

Our family wants to especially thank our legal team, headed by Hussein abu Hussein, and all who have supported us in the many different efforts to get us to this point here today. The commitment, the knowledge, the generosity, the kindness, and the patience that has been extended to us in this process by all of you, is immeasurably important to us and will never be forgotten.

THE GUARDIAN – by Cindy Corrie

When Greek authorities prevented the US ship the Audacity of Hope leaving its port in Athens this week, they dealt a blow to a group of brave and principled Americans who were trying to carry thousands of letters from US citizens to those who wait on Gaza’s shores. […]

Iowa View: Truth still not told in killing of Rachel Corrie

DES MOINES REGISTER – by Sangina Patnaik

This past month, Colin Powell submitted the State Department’s 2003 “Country Reports on Human Rights Practices” to Congress. Its findings document human-rights violations around the world and, according to Powell’s introduction, informs U.S. policy changes in regard to those violations. The report includes a paragraph documenting the killing of my cousin, Rachel Corrie, by an Israeli military bulldozer. […]

Seeking answers from Israel

BOSTON GLOBE – by Cindy Corrie

A YEAR AGO this week, my daughter Rachel Corrie was killed in Rafah in the Gaza Strip. She was run over by an Israeli bulldozer manned by two soldiers. The Israeli government exonerated the soldiers, closed the case, and refuses to release to the US government the complete report on the military police investigation into Rachel’s killing.

Only the “conclusions” of the report have been released. In them, the soldiers are identified by their initials: Sergeant Y.F. and Sergeant E.V. Their initials are nearly all we know of them. I wonder about Y.F. and E.V. I wonder whether they will pause this week and remember. […]
