Interning with the Rachel Corrie Foundation (RCF) provides a meaningful way to work towards peace and justice and gain a variety of skills. We are looking for passionate and reliable people with strong organizational skills who, among their responsibilities, are able to attend semi-monthly staff meetings. Our internships are available for a single quarter. However, preference is given to students who commit to interning for multiple quarters.
Arab Fest Intern (4-16 hours per week, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
In fall 2012, the Rachel Corrie Foundation will host the first Olympia Arab Fest – a celebration of Arab culture including food, dance, music, and more. This internship will support the Arab Fest Organizing Committee that presently has an evening meeting every three weeks. The intern will help to solicit co-sponsorships, develop the program, work on event logistics and much more. A desire to connect with Arab members of our community, strong interest in and/or experience with event organizing, and strong follow through is desired.
BDS Community Outreach Intern (8-20 hours per week, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
Work to educate our community on the growing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. Help build understanding and support within the church community about actions being taken nationally by the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches to divest from select corporations implicated in the occupation. Also in collaboration with TESC Divest, support campus education and outreach around the Divestment and CAT Free campus student initiatives. Tasks will include doing research to create outreach materials, updating websites and organizing events. The ideal intern will have skills in community outreach, writing, and will have a strong commitment to anti-oppression principles.
Fund-Raising and Development Intern (6-10 hours per week, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
Help the Rachel Corrie Foundation staff, our Finance/Fund-raising Committee, and events planners to develop project fund-raising plans and to seek co-sponsorships and grants. You will work with our Finance/Fund-raising Committee to explore and prioritize fund-raising possibilities, to write fund-raising appeals for newsletters; to create, prepare, and mail co-sponsorship appeal letters and forms; to research, appeal to, and follow up with potential and existing co-sponsors and donors; to research, apply for, and document project grants; and to support development of fund-raising events. The ideal intern will have grant writing experience and/or strong writing skills, a strong general interest in fund-raising and development, and a specific interest in supporting the Rachel Corrie Foundation in procuring funding for future projects.
Events Development Intern (10 hours per week, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
Help the Rachel Corrie Foundation organize and promote the numerous educational events we hold each year. These include our Peace Works, Rachel Corrie – March 16th memorial, May 15th Nakba Day and other annual events and, also, one-time events for visiting speakers, delegation report backs, etc. The ideal intern will have experience or very strong interest in event development and management and will be available on weekends and evenings for some functions.
General Office Assistant (6 hours per week, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
Gain office experience by supporting Rachel Corrie Foundation personnel with office communications, data entry, organization of educational materials, filing, and a variety of ever-emerging office tasks. The ideal intern will have strong organizational skills, be attentive to detail, and have computer proficiency. A strong interest in developing office management skills, ability to interact positively with the public, and a specific interest in helping the Rachel Corrie Foundation office operate smoothly is desired.
Graphic Design Artist (4-6 hours per week, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
Are you a graphic design artist who would like to use your skills to further the Rachel Corrie Foundation’s peace and justice work? This position will provide opportunities to assist with creation of outreach materials, web design elements, and layout of our semi-annual print newsletter. The ideal candidate will have interest, expertise, and experience in graphic design.
Congressional Education/Advocacy Intern (4-10 hours a week, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
Are you interested in learning how to educate and influence public policy makers locally and nationally? Work with the Rachel Corrie Foundation Public Policy and Communications Committee to support educational outreach to public officials and to organize citizens locally and statewide to communicate information and requests pertaining to Peace and Justice in the Middle East to public officials. Help to develop and facilitate a statewide network for this purpose. The ideal intern will have strong interest and/or experience in organizing, networking, communications, government, and U.S. policy in the Middle East.
Gaza Projects Intern (8-20 hours , Fall, Winter, and/or Spring)
The Rachel Corrie Foundation has a strong connection to the people of Gaza and, also, existing and potential Gaza projects that can benefit from your time, talents, and interest. These range from projects that encourage and utilize communication and exchange; provide support for grassroots, humanitarian and community development efforts; provide scholarship assistance; educate about Gaza; focus on the arts as tools for connection and engagement; and that focus on key issues (such as water) and key groups (such as women and children). The ideal intern will have strong interest in Gaza, strong communication skills with ability to interact positively with diverse populations, ability to work independently to develop new project possibilities and to work collaboratively and with direction to carry out aspects of existing projects. Specific work will be determined with RCF personnel based on current Gaza Project priorities and the specific intern’s interests and skills.
