Kite Festival – solidarity with occupied Burin

The residents of Burin, in the occupied West Bank, invite people around the world to fly kites with them between July 4 to July 12. Every year, residents and activists of the village organize the Kite Festival, where the whole community comes together to build and fly kites in the skies of Burin. The festival represents an act of resistance and a sign of the daily struggle of the residents in the face of the harsh reality of the occupation. The message of the festival is:

“We have the right to smile, we have the right to have fun. We have the right to be happy, we have the right to play, we have the right to move. From the Burin mountains to the sands of Gaza they will not kill our hope.”

Our partners at Palestine Action of South Sound are organizing a Kite Festival in Olympia, Sunday July 5, 12-5pm, near the Heritage Fountain. and invite people to help prepare kites every Monday night ahead of the Kite Festival on July 5th. Reach out to Michelle (([email protected]) to help volunteer during the Kite Festival.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Come join us designing, decorating, and flying kites.

Jewish Voice for Peace Tacoma is also hosting a Kite Festival on July 5th, 2pm at Dune Peninsula Park.

Peace Vigil – Week 100

Every Friday at Percival Landing in downtown Olympia, 4:30-6:00pm, we continue to gather to hold vigil for peace.

This Friday we gather on the 100th week since Israel began it’s most recent assault on Gaza, which has has led to a man-made famine as Israels deny the people of Gaza the right to food.

Join us this Friday, and every Friday, as we hold signs saying FEED GAZA NOW and other signs advocating for peace. Peace signs are provided.

Thanks to the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation for organizing these vigils for decades, and for inviting us to share space as we all work for a more peaceful world.

Peace Vigil – week 95

We continue to gather every Friday at Percival Landing in downtown Olympia to vigil for Palestinians to remain safely in Gaza, and for peace with justice. This week we gather after more than ninety-five weeks, and almost twenty-two months, since Israel began its assault on Gaza following October 7, 2023.

The people in Gaza are in danger of dying of starvation unless we act now. Sign this petition organized by Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action), calling on President Trump to ensure that the President and Congress immediately compel Israel to allow unrestricted emergency food aid into Gaza, exclusively managed by the United Nations and credible humanitarian organizations; and the immediate termination of the immoral, mercenary “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.”

Join us today and every Friday to say “FEED GAZA NOW!” If you can, please bring your own sign with that message, or come and use one of our other signs calling for a free Palestine. Bring a friend!
