Flat Stanley goes to Palestine
Hi! My name is Flat Stanley! I come from a book about a kid named Stanley whose bulletin board fell on him during the night and made him two-dimensional.
My seven-year old friend Alex drew me as part of his second grade class project and then sent me to his Aunt Jen to take care of for two months. Aunt Jen took me with her to Palestine and Israel and boy did I have an adventure unlike any other Flat Stanley in Alex’s class–in the whole world,I bet!
Hope you enjoy seeing my pictures and hearing my stories!
Your friend,
Flat Stanley
Palestinians Break Through at Rafah!
See these amazing photos from Rafah in Gaza where Palestinians broke through the wall there today:
Gazans Cross Border Wall (NY Times)
From our Israeli friend, Jeff Halper, with Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions:
Excerpt: “As an Israeli Jew, I have been saddened and mortified that my own people, after all they have experienced, cannot see what they are doing to others. But on a larger scale, not as an Israeli Jew but as a human being, I take heart in the Palestinians’ active refusal to be ground under a global system that is producing unimaginable wealth and power for a few at the expense of the growing ranks of the wretched.
I am not a Palestinian; I am not one of the oppressed. I only hope I can use my privilege in an effective way in order to redeem the gift the people of Gaza have given all of us: the realization that the people do have power and can prevail even in the face of overwhelming power. We may each express our responsibility towards the people of Gaza in whatever way most suits us, but as the privileged we must do something. We owe the Palestinians and the Palestinians writ large at least that.
End the Siege of the People of Gaza

US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation
Call for a Comprehensive Ceasefire, End US Military Aid to Israel
Israel is continuing to escalate its attacks on Gaza, killing more than 40 Palestinians just this past week and wounding scores more, and has placed the already besieged territory under complete lockdown. That is eliminating what little access the besieged population had to food, fuel, clean water and ever-more-urgent medical services. By Sunday Gaza’s only power generator was shut down because of a lack of fuel; hospitals are starting to be affected and Palestinian medical officials reported five gravely ill patients had died.
Call to vigil to stop the crisis in Gaza
The Rachel Corrie Foundation invites all who are concerned about the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip to participate in the two vigils this week in Olympia, Washington, sponsored by the Fellowship of Reconciliation. Some signs will be provided and participants are also encouraged to bring their own. Some suggested signs: The People of Gaza are Under Attack, End the Siege of Gaza, Stop War Crimes Against Palestinians, Our Brothers and Sisters in Rafah are Dying.
