Produced by master filmmakers, Werner Herzog and Errol Morris, The Look of Silence is Joshua Oppenheimer’s follow-up to the Oscar-nominated documentary The Act of Killing. In this powerfully moving film, survivors of the 1965 Indonesian genocide face the men responsible for incomprehensible atrocities. The focus is on Adi, a traveling optometrist, whose family was devastated by the past. While giving eye exams and fitting glasses, Adi uses the opportunity to confront the aging perpetrators, challenging them to accept responsibility for the horrific events that have not only affected his family, but crippled the spirit of an entire nation.
