Memorial event for Rachel in Montgomery, Alabama

Upcoming Event: 7 p.m., 16th March, 2009, Montgomery, Alabama, U.S.A. Does that date ring a bell? On that day, it will have been 6 years since Rachel was killed, and there has still been no full and fair investigation. In the meantime, thousands more Palestinians have died. We might hope that now, with Bush out of the White House, the U.S.A. will finally put pressure on Israel to face up to their responsibilities, but…

On the 16th March, doors open at 7 p.m., we will be “Remembering Rachel” at The Ken Baker Equality Alabama Center 821 S. Perry St., Montgomery, AL  36104 (directions for arriving below)

Aside from invited speakers, there will be information tables, posters, and an open-to-all discussion: “Where do we go from here?” So come prepared to listen and – if you wish – to participate. We are planning to offer light refreshments and a children’s corner so that those with young children will be able to attend.

Directions:

From North (Birmingham, Huntsville)
From I-65 S take exit 171 for I-85 N towards Atlanta.  Once through the turn, get over to the right for Exit #1 for Court St. At first light of access road (E South St/Arba St) go right onto S Court St.   Get in the left hand lane and take the second left onto E Hannon St.  Go one block and turn left onto S Perry St.  Go 1½ blocks to Ken Baker center on the right.

From South (Mobile)
From I-65 N take exit 171 for I-85 N towards Atlanta.  Once through the turn, stay to the right for Exit #1 for Court St. At first light of access road (E South St/Arba St) go right onto S Court St.   Get in the left hand lane and take the second left onto E Hannon St.  Go one block and turn left onto S Perry St.  Go 1½ blocks to Ken Baker center on the right.

From East (Atlanta)
From I-85 S take exit 1 for Union St.  Stay on access Rd (E South St/Arba St) until last light before ramp back onto I-85.  Go left onto S Court St.  Cross over I-85.  Get in the left hand lane and take left onto E Hannon St.  Go one block and turn left onto S Perry St.  Go 1½ blocks to Ken Baker center on the right.

We are also hoping to repeat this event on Rachel’s 30th birthday, 10th April, in another (not too distant city) so that if you can suggest a venue, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
