On Tuesday, June 2, the American Friends Service Committee hosted a Congressional briefing on Capitol Hill to examine Israel’s child detention practices. The briefing was attended by more than one hundred people, including 36 Congressional offices.
In response to concerns about Israel’s treatment of Palestinian children, Representative McCollum has initiated a letter to Secretary Kerry calling on the State Department to make the protection of children a priority in the United States-Israel relationship.
Every year, hundreds of Palestinian children – some as young as 12 years old – are detained and arrested in an Israeli military detention system where ill treatment and abuse is widespread.
