A Discussion of Recent Events

(please help forward announcement)

Join the Rachel Corrie Foundation for a panel discussion and open Q & A about the current crisis in Israel/Palestine.  With the collapse of the Peace Process, the establishment of a unity government, and recent deaths on both sides, what do we need to know?  What is the media telling us and what is being left out? Come discuss what our response as tax-paying citizens who fund the actions taken by the Israeli military should be.

Moderator: Andrew Meyer, RCF Staff

Panelist Bios:

Dr. Karam Dana is a Palestinian-American academic. He is an Assistant Professor of Middle East and Islamic Studies at the University of Washington Bothell. His Middle East-related research explores elite politics in Palestinian society in the 1920s and 1930s, Palestinian public opinion, the intersection between economics and politics and the changing state-society relations in the Arab Middle East.

Sallie Shawl retired after 30 years in social service work in Tacoma, is a founding member of the Tacoma chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace as well as Puget Sound Interfaith Youth Camp. Shawl vowed that “Never Again” means “Never Again for all people,” and it is her Jewish upbringing of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and “Don’t do to others what you don’t want done to you” that propels her forward in her work for Palestinian human rights and a just peace.

Eitan Isaacson grew up in a modern orthodox Jewish community in Rehovot, Israel. He served as a tank commander in the Israeli military in 2001 to 2004 during the second intifada. Today, Eitan is an activist in the Seattle chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace.

Steve Niva teaches International Politics and Middle East Studies at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
