Block the Wall Community Gathering and March

We’re reaching out to invite you to our Block The Wall Community Gathering and March this Wednesday the 20th! We are participating in the nationwide #blockthewall mobilization in response to the recent state of emergency and border wall deal. We refuse to choose between Trump’s openly racist wall and the Democrats’ implicitly racist “smart border.” The differences between Trump’s border wall and a soft-power smart wall are variations on the same deadly theme. We choose another way: freedom of movement, solidarity and mutual aid. Together, we can demonstrate that we can build a better world.

At 4pm we’ll gather at Percival Park to meet and share food and hot drinks, make signs, and play games. Community groups and organizations are invited to table their materials. We would like to uplift groups that organize around migrant justice, who do solidarity work at detention centers, etc. If this is you, please email us and let us know how we can support your work at this time! If you would like to table, show up! Please bring whatever tables and canopies you might need.

At 5pm we’ll gather at Percival Landing to march through downtown with banners and signs and hand out informational leaflets. We are playing on the theme of “emergency” – wear high visibility vests and bring caution tape! We will be stopping momentarily at intersections along our route for folks to give speeches or perform acts. If you want to reserve a spot, shoot us an email!

We hope you are able to attend this event. We need a bold, positive vision of the future in contrast to Trump’s white supremacist fantasy. We need to create a world in which people can move freely, where families can find refuge from danger, and communities are brave enough to welcome newcomers and create shared sense of belonging.
