SHURUQ 4.5 – VIRTUAL ARAB FESTIVAL
We are currently seeking submissions of poetry and short prose (fiction and nonfiction) by writers of Arab heritage or with heritage in the 22 Arab countries to be featured on our virtual event platform. We welcome work on any topic; it does not need to focus on Arab culture or identity. Deadline for submissions: August 30, 2020.
- We seek to highlight work by writers from a range of backgrounds within the Arab community. Priority may be given to writers from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds or countries.
- We will accept previously published or posted work, as well as simultaneous submissions. Please notify us as soon as possible if you need to withdraw your submission for any reason.
- Accepted writers will receive a small honorarium ($25 poetry; $40 prose)
- We have space for up to 20 pieces and prefer to feature only one piece per writer.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
POETRY: Poetry submissions should not exceed 3 pages per poem. Please submit no more than 3 poems. Send poetry submissions to [email protected] with the subject line Submission: Poetry. Please send your poems as an attachment in whatever format works for you, and include the titles of your submissions and a short bio in the body of the email. Please do not include your name anywhere on the attached poems.
PROSE: Prose submissions should be limited to roughly 2,000 words. Please submit no more than 1 short fiction or nonfiction piece. Send prose submissions to [email protected] with the subject line Submission: Fiction or Submission: Nonfiction. Please send your pieces as an attachment in whatever format works for you, and include the title of your submission and a short bio in the body of the email. Please do not include your name anywhere on the attached piece.
