In September 2025, Cindy and Craig Corrie were in Washington DC with other American families whose children were killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers. Over three days the families met with more than a dozen members of Congress and senators, and held a press conference on Capitol Hill, asking the US government to investigate the killings. The Guardian’s Alice Speri reported from those meetings.
The headline is Craig’s phrase. He used it with Hamid Ali, husband of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi — the 26-year-old from Washington state shot by an Israeli sniper at a protest in the West Bank in 2024. The families, he told Ali, were an exclusive “club nobody wanted to be a part of.”
Within hours of being told Eygi had been killed, her family was on the phone with Cindy and Craig. They pulled over at a highway rest stop to take the call.

About a dozen US citizens are known to have died at the hands of Israeli soldiers or settlers, or in Israeli custody, since Rachel was killed in 2003. Nobody has been charged or held accountable for any of them. One case — the 2022 killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh — is understood to have drawn a formal FBI investigation, and it appears to have stalled.
