Even with the loosening of the Rafah border, Gazan teacher Amani Inshasi missed her first flight out of Egypt, stuck inside Gaza due to closure. Fortunately, because of her persistence and the support of the Gaza Cultural Exchange (GCE) in Corvallis, Oregon, Amani stepped foot in the U.S. in early July for a three-week visit.
In 2011, GCE was in Gaza to build connections between Corvallis and Gaza youth, and Amani served as their translator and teaching assistant.
