SUMMARY:Palestinian Land Day - Seattle rally and march
DESCRIPTION:Each March 30th\, Palestinians mark Land Day\, recalling how in 1976 Israel announced plans to confiscate thousands of dunams of Palestinian land in the Galilee. This led to protests across Palestine\, and on March 30\, 1976\, Israeli police killed six Palestinian citizens of Israel and injured and arrested many others. The occasion has come to exemplify the steadfastness of Palestinian resistance to colonization of their land. \nOn Saturday\, March 30\, at 2:00 p.m\, a coalition in Seattle invites us to gather at Lake Union Park for a march and rally. Organizers are calling on all people of conscience\, across Coast Salish lands\, across the Pacific Northwest\, and beyond\, to march in honor of those who fought and continue to struggle for a free Palestine.

SUMMARY:Olympia Film Society showing of "Foragers"
DESCRIPTION:The Olympia Film Society\, in conjunction with the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice\, will screen the documentary film Foragers\, Thursday\, April 11th\, at the Capitol Theater\, 206 5th Ave SE\, in Olympia. Doors open at 6 p.m\, and the film will screen at 7 p.m. \nWith “wry humor and a meditative pace\,” the film depicts the dramas around the Palestinian custom of foraging for wild edible plants\, and the impact of Israeli nature protection laws on these customs. The film’s director\, Jumana Manna\, is a Palestinian visual artist and filmmaker whose “work explores how power is articulated\, focusing on the body\, land and materiality in relation to colonial inheritances and histories of place.” \nThe 64-minute documentary will be followed by a post-film presentation and Q&A with Savvina Chowdhury\, Political Economy and Environmental Justice Professor at The Evergreen State College\, and by Peter Bohmer\, representing the recently formed Palestine Action of South Sound (PASS). \nThe film event will mark and celebrate the 45th birthday of local activist Rachel Corrie\, killed by the Israeli military in 2003 as she stood to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian family’s home in Gaza. Rachel’s mother\, Cindy Corrie\, will introduce the documentary. Proceeds from the film screening will benefit Palestinian children in Gaza. \nOlympita\, the Palestinian owned food truck\, will have a pop up\, serving Za’atar pie and other delicious food! \nTickets are available online now and at the box office 60 minutes before showtime. \n$13 General Admission & $10 for OFS members \nAll Proceeds Benefit Palestinian Children in Gaza.

SUMMARY:Day of Palestinian Struggle
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the streets as we honor the Palestinian day of struggle and fight against 7 months and 76 years of genocide\, military occupation\, and settler colonialism at the hands of the Zionist regime in Palestine. \nMore than ever\, we must show out in force to demonstrate the power of the Palestinian struggle for liberation. Join us and help uplift 76 years of unified and steadfast resistance towards a free Palestine\, from the river to the sea! \n(text and image taken from @super_uw on Instagram) \n\nJoin the above PASS endorsed action this upcoming Saturday. \nIt was reported yesterday that President Biden will be in Seattle Friday\, May 10th and Saturday\, May 11th campaigning. Be aware of traffic delays. \nTake a stand against current US policy – billions of US tax dollars being sent to Israel in military and economic aid and complicity of US corporations with government contracts that provide arms and technology used to perform military operations that have resulted in the deaths of at least 35\,000 Palestinians in Gaza\, with more than 14\,500 being children. \nMore than 1.4 of Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced and have taken shelter in Rafah where a ground invasion is imminent. Israeli military forces have already invaded Rafah and seized control of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. \nKeep an eye out for emergency actions being announced for Friday and other actions in response to the Rafah invasion. \nALL EYES ON RAFAH!

SUMMARY:Remembering the Nakba
DESCRIPTION:Palestinians mark the Nakba each year on May 15. The Nakba (Catastrophe) refers to the loss of hundreds of Palestinian villages\, and the forced expulsion of more than 750\,000 Palestinians from their homes between 1947-1949. Today\, scholars and many others note that the Nakba has never ended and continues in Gaza\, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. \nThe Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice will mark the Nakba this Monday\, May 13\, at the north end of Heritage Park (across from Traditions Fair Trade) in downtown Olympia\, 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM. We’ll have a Nakba display representing many of the towns and villages destroyed from 1947-1949\, and will have volunteers with tabling materials to support conversations about how the Nakba continues and what we can do about it.

SUMMARY:War and Resistance in Palestine - A Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join Palestine Action of the South Sound\, Economics for Everyone\, and Rachel Corrie Foundation for a discussion on the historical context and future implications of resistance in Gaza and the alliance between Israel and the United States. We will hear from Zarefah Baroud\, Steve Niva\, Cindy Corrie and Peter Bohmer.\n\nThe scale of human catastrophe in Palestine increases every day. Israeli forces have killed over 35\,000 Palestinians and injured more than 83\,000 since October 2023. At least 8\,000 people are missing. Most of the homes\, schools and hospitals have been destroyed. Despite this horrific reality\, the U.S. continues sending billions of dollars in unconditional aid to Israel.\n\nMass protests in the U.S. – including a wave of university campus occupations— shows the amount of people challenging US material support for Israel is higher than ever. Global support for Palestinian resistance against the occupation is also at an all-time high.\n\nDuring the 1948 Nakba (‘catastrophe’ in Arabic)\, 750\,000 Palestinians were displaced\, with 78% of historic Palestine seized during the establishment of Israeli statehood. To further understand the ongoing ethnic cleansing\, we must examine how we got from the Nakba to this current point in time.\n\nIsrael’s war on Palestine also raises the likelihood of the conflict extending to the rest of the Middle East. For a just resolution\, the Nakba that began 76 years ago must end!

SUMMARY:Peace Vigil for Palestine - week 35
DESCRIPTION:The peace vigils for Palestine continue weekly in Olympia.  This week we gather for the 35th week since Israel began it’s most recent attack on Gaza. \nAs conditions become more dire in Gaza it’s increasingly important to remain visible for Palestinian rights. Join us advocating for peace and a permanent ceasefire\, and as we demand that Rafah is a “red line” for President Biden and that as a country we stop sending weapons to Israel that are used to attack Palestinians. \nThanks to Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation for hosting these vigils and inviting us to share this space as we work for peace.

SUMMARY:Movement Magazine II Launch & Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Palestine Action of the South Sound (PASS) invites you to the Olympia Ballroom for a night of festivities! From 5:00-9:00PM the event is jammed packed with activities\, performances\, speeches\, and food. You’ll have an opportunity to make donations that have a direct impact through Rachel Corrie Foundation by purchasing the zine or by making direct contributions\, and connect with members of the community. \nThis family-friendly event is open to the public.  A fee of $10 to $15 of the door would be appreciated\, but no one will be turned away for lack of money.  For your health and the health of those around you masks are encouraged. \nPlease RSVP here. \nInspired by a sold out benefit concert headlined by Bikini Kill on behalf of the Rachel Corrie Foundation and Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund\, the PASS Outreach and Education Committee released a zine called Movement Mag in conjunction with a Kimya Dawson event in February. Movement Mag is a project bringing together different voices and perspectives within the local movement for Palestine. Movement Mag documents the process of movement building\, collectivizes learning\, and provides a space for deep engagement and reflection. \nThe first issue of Movement Mag was a call into the void\, to see who was out there thinking about Palestine. With this second issue\, Movement Mag is saying\, “we found each other and are now asking”: \n\nWhere are we at?\nHow did we get here?\nWhere are we going?\nHow do we get there?

SUMMARY:Disturbing the Peace film screening
DESCRIPTION:Disturbing the Peace is a a film describing the origin and collaboration of Combatants for Peace\, a joint organization of former Israeli and Palestinian fighters who were born into conflict\, sworn to be enemies\, and who now work together to end the Occupation and to create a just and secure future for all who live on the same  land. \nIn a world torn by conflict\, Combatants for Peace have challenged their fate by stepping outside their own experiences and narratives about this conflict in order to also see it from other people’s perspectives. They see that there are not just two sides to the conflict\, but rather multiple narratives\, just as there are in every conflict in the world and in our own lives. \nCombatants for Peace work together through nonviolence.  Their eight regional groups\, as well as a theater of the oppressed and a women’s group\, are managed bi-nationally with Palestinians and Israelis working closely together.  They believe this is a model for post-conflict collaborations in the region.  Their work is always about direct action and is not just a dialogue group. The movie challenges all of us – to understand the narratives we live within\, to look at our current roles in our societies\, and to decide what role we are going to play in creating a more humane world for all.  And it starts with our willingness to disturb the peace!
