DESCRIPTION:Planning conference–  an essential annual event to focus the Coalition’s thinking and effort\, currently centered around the “No Way To Treat A Child” national campaign. The conference is being organized by the Kairos Puget Sound Coalition\, a congregationally-based network working for justice and peace in Palestine/Israel and is affiliated with Christian churches and organizations located in the greater Seattle area.  These organizations are responding to the plea of Palestinian Christians to end their oppression. \nIn 2009\, Palestinian Christians wrote the document Kairos Palestine: “A Moment of Truth”\, in faithful resistance to the oppression and dispossession of their people. It expresses faith\, hope and love from the heart of Palestinian suffering. \nConference Focus: \n\nTo awaken the church community and civil society to the gross violation of the human rights of incarcerated Palestinian children in Israeli prisons.\nTo encourage advocacy by participants on behalf of these children\, and\nTo provide resources supporting advocacy efforts.\n\nRegistration begins at 1:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:As part of their west coast tour\, come hear four of the victorious Boston School Bus Drivers talk about their fighting strategies.\nLast year\, after more than two years of hard-fought struggle\, the militant\, fighting rank and file of the Boston School Bus Drivers Union — ­United ­Steelworkers Local 8751 — won a historic victory against global giant Veolia/Transdev\, one of the most notorious capitalist union busters\, as well as ­Boston Public School bosses\, Boston Mayor ­Marty Walsh and their media mouthpieces. \nFour fired union leaders\, out of work since October 2013 on bogus charges of leading a wildcat strike\, went back to work on Dec. 23\, 2015. In addition to rein­statement of the four with full senior­ity rights and a substantial monetary payment\, the local won a contract with economic justice and the protection of 40 years of the collective bargaining process. \nSolidarity is key to the Boston school bus drivers success. “Team Solidarity” has been building power among the working class through a 40+ year commitment to racial justice\, disability justice\, LGBT*Q rights\, local struggle and anti-colonial/anti-imperialist struggle including solidarity with workers in Palestine. \nThese drivers are truly an inspiration and have so much knowledge and experience to share with us about solidarity and building power among the working class to push corporate power back. \n\nSnacks will be provided. Watch the informative and inspiring documentary film “Hit and Stay.” \nOn April 30\, Dan Berrigan died shortly before reaching the age of 95. He and his late brother Phil were members of the Fellowship of Reconciliation and courageous leaders of bold nonviolent peace activities from the 1960s onward\, especially opposing the Vietnam war and nuclear weapons and drawing upon their radical Catholic faith. \nTo help people learn more about the Berrigan brothers and this kind of nonviolent peace activism\, the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation will show the film “Hit and Stay” about this movement. More than half the Arab Palestinians in Palestine were killed or expelled and more than half of the cities\, towns and villages of Palestine were made to disappear\, a crime that Palestinians call al-Nakba (the Catastrophe). \nMariam\, now 86 years old\, wants to meet you and tell her story in person.
