It advocates that the state divest from holdings in companies that profit from the ongoing genocide\, ethnic cleansing\, and the illegal occupation of Palestinian land\, and commit to not purchasing Israel Bonds now or in the future. \nThe Rachel Corrie Foundation endorses the work of Cut Ties with Genocide. \nCut Ties with Genocide\, on Instagram\, shares that on the 23rd anniversary of the killing of peace activist Rachel Corrie\, the Washington State Treasurer’s office has fully divested from Caterpillar Inc.. Just months ago\, the Treasurer’s office held $62 million in Caterpillar bonds. Today\, that number is zero. \nCaterpillar manufactures the armored Caterpillar D9 armored bulldozer\, which has long been used by the Israeli military in demolitions in the occupied Palestinian territories. DESCRIPTION:Join RCF and PASS (Palestine Action of South Sound) this Monday\, June 23\, at the YWCA Friendship Hall\, in Olympia\, from 7pm until 9pm for a panel discussion on Israel\, Iran\, Palestine\, and the United States. In the early hours of June 13\, Israel targeted Iran with a series of airstrikes using American weapons. Several were killed in Tehran. The two largest militaries in the region are now exchanging blows\, while the Trump administration\, scrambled by Israel’s unprovoked attack on Iran\, wavers on the edge of direct US involvement. The panel will be composed of faculty of The Evergreen State College. \n \n  \n

It is fully shaded\, but glitters like an emerald in spring and summer as the sun peeks through its lush canopy. We will start at the trailhead and walk down to the saltwater where the Nisqually People’s village of Sequalitchew thrived for thousands of years until European colonization. On this walk we will learn about edible berries and plants\, the area’s incredible human history\, and continued threats to the land and waters from so-called “development.” \nMeet at Dupont Civic Center Parking Lot.\, 1780 Civic Dr. \nThere is a carpool option: meet at Grocery Outlet on the Westside of Olympia at 5:20 PM. \nThis is a free\, family-friendly event.

We may feel powerlessness\, grief\, or rage – or all of these in turns. These are understandable reactions to what some have termed an administrative coup by the Trump Administration. Yet we may also feel hope and community as we resist injustice and cruelty. Together\, let us consider what kind of nonviolent actions are most effective when our democratic norms and processes are being trampled. \nThis year’s Spring Assembly Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Stephen Zunes\, speaking on “Authoritarianism and Resistance: What the World Can Teach Us.” Stephen is a Professor of Politics and Global Studies at the University of San Francisco\, where he serves as coordinator of Middle Eastern Studies and the incoming director of USF’s Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice. He is a renowned scholar specializing in U.S. foreign policy\, pro-democracy struggles\, and strategic nonviolent action. \n\n\nSome of Stephen’s recent attention has been to what he has called the “slow moving coup” in the United States\, and on resisting authoritarianism. In their words\, “This collaborative work is an expression of collective grief and hope—a journey moving through tragedy and remembrance to hope and resilience.” The community will be invited to contribute messages of their own to the installation. \nOn the second floor of the adjacent Labor Temple building\, the Art Forces Peacemaker Gallery will be exhibiting Shoshana Cohen’s original collection of photographs depicting the day-to-day lives of youth living under occupation in the West Bank during the 1980s and 90s.
