If you’re able\, please bring a potluck item to share. Join us as we observe International Women’s Day March 8th and continue our celebration of women March 16th as we remember Rachel and continue the work she inspired for peace with justice.\n  \n \n  \n  \n  \nIn the Image\, explores the daily lives of Palestinian women living in the occupied West Bank. The film portrays their stories in a novel and eye-opening manner; through video footage captured by the women themselves. \nIn the Image gives voice to each woman’s experience: Ayat\, Salam\, and Nariman are three of the participants in The Camera Project\, an initiative launched by the Jerusalem-based human rights organization B’Tselem. This project is a unique collaboration of Palestinians and Israelis who seek to use footage captured by Palestinians to fight for justice in the West Bank. Palestinian volunteers are given video cameras to capture the human rights violations to which they are subjected. They are taught how to use the cameras and record the brutality that is a part of their daily lives. In agreeing to help expose the abuses suffered at the hands of the Israeli settlers and military personnel\, these women put themselves and their families at risk and face harassment or retribution for seeking to expose the violence. Their perseverance is inspiring\, as they continue to work for change\, attempting to pave the way for future peace in the region. The women in In The Image are not only fighting for the rights of Palestinians but also for the rights of women all over the world.

DESCRIPTION:Sulha Peace Project\nAn Israeli-Palestinian Peace Project\n\nRecognizing the mutual fears\, alienation and suspicion that exist between Israelis and Palestinians\, the Sulha Peace Project brings together such diverse factions as soldiers\, stone throwers\, young professionals\, academicians and laborers. Yoav Peck\, the Co-Executive Director of the Sulha Peace Project and Fulla Jubeh\, a Sulha leader\, will share stories about the Project’s work helping Israelis and Palestinians “to encounter the other in our full humanity.” They will present the difficulties of this kind of work and share the unique tools and approaches used at Sulha for bringing people together and renewing their hope for a better future. \nPresented by: Dorpat Lecture Series and The Northwest Alliance for Psychoanalytic Study \nThe Dorpat Lecture in Psychoanalysis and Society is an annual award to recognize those whose work applies psychoanalytic understanding to social problems. The recipient of the award is honored at an event in Seattle in which the work is presented to the greater community of clinicians and individuals interested in addressing social problems in local and global environments. DESCRIPTION:No Child Behind Bars: \nLiving Resistance from US to Palestine\nTuesday\, January 24th\n6:30-8:30 pm\nUniversity Congregational United Church of Christ\n4515 16th Ave. N.E.\, Seattle\nAhed Tamimi\, Amanda Weatherspoon and Nadya Tannous will discuss the connections between state-sponsored violence\, criminalization and incarceration of youth in the United States and Palestine. Speakers will highlight the intersectional nature of injustice to children\, including detention practices in the U.S.\, which disproportionally impact children and youth of color. The tour goal is to spread awareness and highlight congressional\, economic and educational opportunities for coalitions to mobilize around the common goal to fully realize children’s human rights. This event offers an opportunity to engage with prophetic voices of our time — national tour speakers and those in our own community — powered by distinctive and united visions and sharing a platform to mobilize for systemic change. SUMMARY:Kairos Puget Sound Coalition Planning Conference: No Way to Treat a Child
DESCRIPTION:Planning conference–  an essential annual event to focus the Coalition’s thinking and effort\, currently centered around the “No Way To Treat A Child” national campaign. The conference is being organized by the Kairos Puget Sound Coalition\, a congregationally-based network working for justice and peace in Palestine/Israel and is affiliated with Christian churches and organizations located in the greater Seattle area.  These organizations are responding to the plea of Palestinian Christians to end their oppression. \nIn 2009\, Palestinian Christians wrote the document Kairos Palestine: “A Moment of Truth”\, in faithful resistance to the oppression and dispossession of their people. It expresses faith\, hope and love from the heart of Palestinian suffering. \nConference Focus: \n\nTo awaken the church community and civil society to the gross violation of the human rights of incarcerated Palestinian children in Israeli prisons.\nTo encourage advocacy by participants on behalf of these children\, and\nTo provide resources supporting advocacy efforts.\n\nRegistration begins at 1:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:Join the Rachel Corrie Foundation at the 13th Annual Vancouver Peace & Justice Fair.\nThe Vancouver Peace and Justice Fair will return to Esther Short Park for its 13th year on September 10\, showcasing local nonprofit agencies and churches\, volunteers and activists\, performers and just-plain-folks who are focused on making Clark County – and the whole bloomin’ world – a better place to live. \nVisitors can get to know the many busy\, big-hearted local community groups that are working on important causes like hunger and homelessness\, racial and ethnic bigotry\, environmental restoration and climate change\, oil trains and pollution\, war and refugees\, gender and LGBTQ equity\, health and nutrition\, animal welfare\, and much more. \nThe entertainment lineup this year is bigger and better than ever. Main-stage highlights this year will be sweet Celtic harp from Jennifer Pratt-Walter\, cosmic keyboards from jazz master Jim Templeton\, and crowd-pleasing Woodstock-nation sounds of cover band Echoes of Yasgurs. DESCRIPTION:Islamic punk (taqwacore) pioneers The Kominas are coming to Olympia from Boston to perform a show and present a workshop on their band’s history and how their message was twisted by white\, conservative media. They will also present their thoughts on the importance of creating a POC driven music scene. \nSince their earliest release in 2005\, The Kominas have found themselves in national controversy for singing about Muslim centric issues in a post-9/11 America. They were branded extremists\, radicals\, and terrorist sympathizers by conservative radio shows and blogs and were even highlighted on Fox News. However\, through the controversy\, The Kominas continue writing\, performing and touring in hopes of making the world re-examine their bigotry and islamophobia and to create a space for Muslim individuals within music scenes across the globe\, all through the medium of danceable punk\, funk punjabi\, and reggae. \nBrought to you by The Kominas\, Students Justice for Palestine\, and DiY Collective.
