SUMMARY:In the Court of the Conqueror - George Emilio Sanchez
DESCRIPTION:In the Court of the Conqueror is a solo performance piece by artist George Emilio Sanchez with projections and visual storytelling by visual artist Patty Ortiz. Together\, they confront the history of how the courts have diminished the Tribal Sovereignty of Native Nations. \nThe piece also tells the story of Sanchez’s experiences of navigating generational trauma regarding his Indigenous identity while being raised in an Ecuadorian immigrant household. The work focuses on several Federal Indian Landmark cases\, leading up to the Johnson v. McIntosh 1823 Supreme Court case that applied the Doctrine of Discovery that still holds legal precedent in our courts of the conqueror. Sanchez and Ortiz traveled across hundreds of geographic miles and ancestral homelands to create this interdisciplinary performance that combines text and video projects to reveal this country’s ongoing conflicts with Native Nations in search of Indigenous justice and sovereignty. \nTickets: $35 \nGroups of 10+ can purchase by calling the Box Office at 253.346.1721. \nFind out more at Tacoma Arts Live

SUMMARY:Voices From the Holy Land Film Salon: Made Homeless in the Homeland: Lawfare\, Demolition\, and Land Theft -RCF cosponsored
DESCRIPTION:The Rachel Corrie Foundation is delighted to co-sponsor Voices From the Holy Land film salon Made Homeless in the Homeland: Lawfare\, Demolition\, and Land Theft on Sunday\, February 16.  Remember to register for this Zoom event. \nIn an ongoing policy of ethnic cleansing\, Israeli authorities uproot fruit trees\, raze farmland\, destroy rainwater reservoirs and irrigation systems\, and demolish homes. Meanwhile increasingly emboldened Israeli settlers — protected by soldiers — taunt families and vandalize property. The ultimate goal is to force Palestinians off the land. \nWith the world’s attention diverted by the war on Gaza\, displacement of West Bank Palestinians has increased dramatically in the past year. Our Salon will focus on Israel’s aggressive use of lawfare in its campaign of ethnic cleansing\, the longstanding efforts of Palestinians to nonviolently resist\, and the role of allies. \nWatch the curated film for free at your convenience. | Join the Q&A discussion with: \nBruno Sorrentino: London-based filmmaker specializing in longitudinal documentaries \nEid Suleman Hathaleen: Artist & human rights activist from Umm al Khair\, home demolished by IDF \nJeff Halper: Israeli-American anthropologist\, author\, lecturer\, and political activist;founder of Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) \nMouin Rabbani (moderator): Co-Editor of Jadaliyya; researcher\, analyst\, and commentator \nRemember to register\n \nWatch the trailer:Tinyurl.com/VFHL-FebruaryTrailer \nThe trailer is helpful and optional. \nCosponsored by: \nRachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice \nIf Americans Knew

SUMMARY:WWFOR Conference (Online): Strengthening Our Nonviolent Movement in This Time of Chaos
DESCRIPTION:Spring Assembly 2025\n\n\n“Strengthening Our Nonviolent Movement\nin This Time of Chaos”\n\n\nSaturday May 17\n9 am to 12 noon Pacific time\nZoom\nOnline Registration https://wwfor2025sa.brownpapertickets.com/\n(more options below) \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nIn the current political and societal turmoil\, all of us are affected in many ways. We may feel powerlessness\, grief\, or rage – or all of these in turns. These are understandable reactions to what some have termed an administrative coup by the Trump Administration. Yet we may also feel hope and community as we resist injustice and cruelty. Together\, let us consider what kind of nonviolent actions are most effective when our democratic norms and processes are being trampled. \nThis year’s Spring Assembly Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Stephen Zunes\, speaking on “Authoritarianism and Resistance: What the World Can Teach Us.” Stephen is a Professor of Politics and Global Studies at the University of San Francisco\, where he serves as coordinator of Middle Eastern Studies and the incoming director of USF’s Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice. He is a renowned scholar specializing in U.S. foreign policy\, pro-democracy struggles\, and strategic nonviolent action. \n\n\nSome of Stephen’s recent attention has been to what he has called the “slow moving coup” in the United States\, and on resisting authoritarianism. You can learn more about Stephen’s work at his website\, https://stephenzunes.org/. We encourage you to join us for what is bound to be a stimulating and rich learning experience. \n\n\nProf. Stephen Zunes\n\n\nWe will also be joined by the seven 2024-2025 Mike Yarrow Peace Fellows pictured below. This program is for youth activists aged 14 through 23 who get training in nonviolence and mentorship on their individual activist projects. The 2024-2025 cohort started last summer. WWFOR is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 cohort through June 1. Anyone considering applying for the program is welcome to attend the Spring Assembly to get a taste of the variety of projects. See our MYPF webpage at https://wwfor.org/mike-yarrow-peace-fellowship-4/. \n\nOnline and other methods to register \nhttps://wwfor2025sa.brownpapertickets.com/ OR submit name\, phone number\, and email address (if available) by phone or email  (contacts below)\, checks to\nWWFOR\, 225 N 70th St\, Seattle WA 98117. \nSuggested $0-20 donation.  All welcome regardless of ability to pay. \nMore information at https://wwfor.org/spring-assembly-2025/ \nInfo 206-789-5565 or wwfor@wwfor.org. \nThe Rachel Corrie Foundation works closely with Western Washington Fellowship of Reconciliation\, and is supportive of the effort to strengthen our nonviolent movement.
