SUMMARY:Kite Festival - solidarity with occupied Burin
DESCRIPTION:The residents of Burin\, in the occupied West Bank\, invite people around the world to fly kites with them between July 4 to July 12. Every year\, residents and activists of the village organize the Kite Festival\, where the whole community comes together to build and fly kites in the skies of Burin. The festival represents an act of resistance and a sign of the daily struggle of the residents in the face of the harsh reality of the occupation. The message of the festival is: \n“We have the right to smile\, we have the right to have fun. We have the right to be happy\, we have the right to play\, we have the right to move. From the Burin mountains to the sands of Gaza they will not kill our hope.” \nOur partners at Palestine Action of South Sound are organizing a Kite Festival in Olympia\, Sunday July 5\, 12-5pm\, near the Heritage Fountain. and invite people to help prepare kites every Monday night ahead of the Kite Festival on July 5th.  Reach out to Michelle ((akkadia@gmail.com) to help volunteer during the Kite Festival. \nEVERYONE IS WELCOME.  Come join us designing\, decorating\, and flying kites. \nJewish Voice for Peace Tacoma is also hosting a Kite Festival on July 5th\, 2pm at Dune Peninsula Park. \nRead more about the Kite Festival here and register to host your own solidarity event.

SUMMARY:Redefining Home: Where the Memory Lies art exhibit
DESCRIPTION:“Redefining Home: Where the Memory Lies”\,  a multimedia art installation exploring the connection to land and home in Palestine and beyond\, will open to the public at 3 PM in the Art Forces Peacemaker Gallery (upstairs in the Labor Temple – 119 ½ Capitol Way N. Olympia\, WA). From 4-7 PM there will be a chance to chat with the artists and connect with local organizations at The Brotherhood Lounge (downstairs from the Peacemaker Gallery)\, with more art\, music\, and beverage specials to enjoy! 50% of all sales between 4 – 7 PM will benefit Gaza relief projects organized by The Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice.
