Iyad Burnat is coming to the Pacific Northwest touring to promote his new book Bil’in and the Nonviolent Resistance. Iyad Burnat is winner of the 2015 James Lawson Award for Excellence in the Practice of Nonviolence, presented by the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC).

Craig and Cindy Corrie of the Rachel Corrie Foundation have visited Iyad Burnat, his family, and the village of Bil’in on several occasions, including this past month. Iyad and the Bil’in Popular Committee who organized persistent and creative demonstrations were featured in the Oscar-nominated ‘Five Broken Cameras’ film. Now, you have a chance to hear Iyad speak about Bil’in’s decades-long struggle for justice and freedom through his first-hand experience.
Since 2005, citizens in the West Bank farming village of Bil’in have held weekly nonviolent demonstrations against the Israeli annexation wall and the encroachment of illegal settlements that originally deprived the village of 60% of its farmland. Protesters have maintained a commitment to nonviolent resistance in the face of armed military opposition, have suffered many injuries and even deaths. Steadfastly leading nonviolent resistance since 2004, Iyad Burnat is head of the Bil’in Popular Committee against the Israeli Annexation Wall and Settlements.
These free events are sponsored by the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice and friends of the Foundation throughout the Puget Sound area.
Donations and purchases of Iyad Burnat’s book are welcome!
