Diana Buttu

This is one of the speakers at The Rachel Corrie Foundation’s 2006 Peace Works Conference.

Diana Buttu is a Palestinian-Canadian lawyer. In 2000, she left North America to move to Palestine in order to assist with the then “peace” negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel as one of the PLO’s legal advisors. With the outbreak of the second Palestinian uprising against Israel’s occupation (and the breakdown of negotiations) Diana decided to remain in Palestine.

She gained prominence during Israel’s invasion of the West Bank, serving as spokesperson for the PLO. Ms Buttu assisted in the litigation of Israel’s wall before the Hague in 2004 - a resounding victory for the Palestinians, and indictment of Israel’s wall. In 2005 she was appointed President Abbas’s communications director. She has since left her official posts. She now resides in Gaza where she is writing a book on the Israeli occupation. (more…)

Jerry and Sis Levin

This are two of the speakers at The Rachel Corrie Foundation’s 2006 Peace Works Conference.

Jerry Levin Jerry and Sis Levin are based in Palestine where they work for an authentic peacemaking environment, a condition they say “clearly does not exist.” The Levins promote nonviolent resistance and report about their first-hand experience with the Israeli occupation.

Jerry Levin works full time with Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) in Hebron and is the author of West BankDiary. He was the CNN Middle East Bureau Chief in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1984 when he was kidnapped by extremists and became the first of the “forgotten American hostages.” He escaped 11 ½ months later through efforts by Sis Levin and an interfaith team of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian friends in the U.S. and across the Middle East. Touch Drawing

Deborah Koff-Chapin will be doing Interpretive Touch Drawing tonight during Arun Ghandi’s lecture. Through the immediacy of Touch Drawing, she will create a full series of images that express the content and feeling-tone of his talk. The drawings will be available for viewing at the conference.
