Olympia Arts Walk: RCF celebrates 10 years of the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project

Location: Corner of State Avenue NE and Capitol Way N.

Join the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice as we explore the creative and spirited arts community of Olympia, WA and celebrate 10 years of the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project!

We’ll be showcasing 9 different artists! From Photography to mixed media to acrylic and sculpture. Check out the links to their work below!

Lisa Bade, Mixed Media – Lisa is bring her Tent City Planet to Olympia!

Shon Forsyth, Sculpture – Shon will be showcasing a collaborative piece with Carrie Ziegler made of cement.

Michael T. Kershisnik, Projected Images – Michael is architect and artist in block print medium. He has works featured at Childhood’s End Gallery in Olympia, WA. He’ll be projecting images of his works alongside Ross Matteson.

Basel El Maqosui, Photography – Basel is one of the several international artists from Gaza featured on the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project. Check out his leaf here. Basel is a painter, photographer and video artist. Check out more of his artwork here.

Ross Matteson, Projected Images – Ross is a sculpture artist based out of Olympia, Wa. His bronze falcons and other works have a timeless appeal that goes beyond their subject matter. Influenced by the art of Asian, Egyptian and Northwest Coast Native American cultures – he has applied what he loves in these ancient visual languages to his own personal love of humanity and observation of nature. Eman Mohammed, Photography – Eman is one of several international artists from Gaza featured on the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project. Check out her leaf here. Eman is an award winning photojournalist and TED fellow, currently based in Washington DC. She is a Palestinian refugee, born in Saudi Arabia and educated in Gaza City, Palestine where she started her photojournalism career at the age of 19. Beverly Naidus, Mixed Media – Beverly is one of our national artists featured on the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project. Check out her leaf here. Beverly is an interdisciplinary artist, writer and educator. While developing an innovative studio arts curriculum, she has been creating interactive installations, digital projects, artist books and narrative and conceptual drawings for over three decades. Shareef Sarhan, Photography – Shareef is one of several international artists from Gaza featured on the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project. Check out his leaf here. Shareef is an artist, professional photographer and freelance designer. He is a founding member of the Windows from Gaza for Contemporary Art group and an active member of the Association of Palestinian Artists. Check out more of his photography here.

Carrie Ziegler,  Acrylic and Sculpture – Carrie designed and coordinated the production of the Olive tree for the Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project alongside Darien Brown and Alicia Martinson. Carrie is an Olympia artist known for her environmental and social justice art. She focuses on large, multi-faceted projects that involve hundreds of people in their creation and inspire positive change in our communities. Check out more of her artwork here.
