Jerry and Sis Levin

This are two of the speakers at The Rachel Corrie Foundation’s 2006 Peace Works Conference.

Jerry LevinJerry and Sis Levin are based in Palestine where they work for an authentic peacemaking environment, a condition they say “clearly does not exist.” The Levins promote nonviolent resistance and report about their first-hand experience with the Israeli occupation.

Jerry Levin works full time with Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) in Hebron and is the author of West BankDiary. He was the CNN Middle East Bureau Chief in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1984 when he was kidnapped by extremists and became the first of the “forgotten American hostages.” He escaped 11 ½ months later through efforts by Sis Levin and an interfaith team of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian friends in the U.S. and across the Middle East.

Paceworks Conference Background

This is one of this sites entries for The Rachel Corrie Foundation’s 2006 Peace Works Conference.

Rachel WritingRachel Corrie was killed while nonviolently protecting the home of two Palestinian families in Gaza from demolition. In her honor and memory, the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice will in April realize one of its dreams when it inaugurates Peace Works, an annual lecture/conference to provide a continuing forum for exploring the meaning and practice of justice and peace as they affect the social, economic, political, environmental, and spiritual aspects of people’s lives.

With a two-day conference, and special pre-conference activities and events, Peace Works 2006 will focus on the struggle in Palestine and Israel. Events in the Middle East are unfolding at a dizzying pace with confusion about what they mean and what can and should be done about them.
